A Store with A Glass Door...
In 1945 Harold T. Lennon Sr. opened Lennon's Jewelers at 4 Lafayetter Street in Utica, NY. That corner of Genesee Street, LaFayette Street and Bleeker Street was known as "The Busy Corner." He was one of the first to offer customer the luxury of air conditioning and had the first full glass door in the city. He advertised as "The Store with the Glass Door." Lennon Sr, above.)In 1957 and 1958 after graduating from St. Lawrence University and completing military service in the U.S. Army, Harold Jr. & Richard Lennon joined the family firm.It was in 1958 that Harold Sr. purchased the W.B. Wilcox Co. Jewelers Store. Harold T. Lennon Jr. became President of W.B. Wilcox Jewelers and moved to 248 Genesee Street, then 10 years later moved to 238 Genesee Street where it remained until 1992. In 1980 Richard Lennon opened a store in the Sangertown Square Mall. Then in 1992 Lennon's and W.B. Wilcox were merged into one location on Commercial Drive in New Hartford where they were celebrating "200 Years of Continuous Business" under the leadership of Harold T. Lennon Jr., Richard Lennon and their sons Gary Lennon & Stephen Lennon. Currently, the store is operating under the direction of Gary and his daughter, Melissa Lennon.
